Former Ghana international Augustine Arhinful has disclosed a midfield partnership of Thomas Partey and Iddrisu Baba should be the ideal combo for for the Black Stars going forward.
The duo featured in both of Ghana’s wins over Zimbabwe in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and the pairing proved to be a successful one.
Coach Milovan Rajevac opted for a pairing of Thomas Partey and Andre Ayew in midfield in the first half against Zimbabwe but that pairing didn’t yield much success as the Zimbabwean’s managed to penetrate the Stars’ defense and grab the equalizer just after recess.
Milo, however, tweaked his formation and brought on Baba Idrissu to partner Thomas Partey later on in the second half and that decision proved to be a successful one as it provided security for the backline and also contributed to Thomas Partey getting a goal.
According to Augustine Arhinful, Milovan Rajevac should consider Iddrisu Baba and Thomas Partey in the midfield for the Black Stars in the future.
“It was a very good performance, and in the first half they were far too behind but many of us were wondering why he didn’t pair Thomas Partey and Baba Iddrissu in the middle, and it allowed the Zimbabweans to dominate in the middle” – Arhinful disclosed.
“Baba Iddrissu keeps it very simple and pairing him with Partey is the icing on the cake. I think there’s still work to do and I’m still confident we will make it.” – He added.
The Black Stars hopes of making the 2022 World Cup will go down to the wire in the final round of games when they first play against Ethiopia and then round off the Qualifiers against South Africa at home.
