Asante Kotoko have offered an explanation of the motive behind the creative social media flyer the club made for its Brazilian Playmaker, Fabio Dos Santos Gama.

The club released a flyer on Tuesday with the title ‘El Carpentano’ AKA the Fixer for their marquee signing after he dazzled on his full debut for the club last Monday.

Fabio Gama’s signing was met with much doubts and skepticism following issues about adapting fully into the Ghanaian football culture and meeting expectations.

However, after he put up a standout performance for the Porcupine Warriors on Monday in their 2-0 win over Liberty Professionals in the Ghana Premier League, there has been much talk about him.

His display was the talk of town with social media and other media platforms inundated with the Fabio Gama hype.

Amid the share of excitement and hilarity Kotoko released the flyer to announce their new ‘Mr. Fixer’.

Now the club’s communication chief has explained the rationale behind the move.

In an interview with Kumasi based Silver FM, David Obeng Nyarko said “There was so much commentary about him, some even speculated that Asante Kotoko had signed a carpenter, so this was just a creative angle of it to also help (build the hype).

“He is our marquee signing… he is a player that brings so much attention on the club and the league. How many times do you see a Ghana Premier League player trending number 1 on Twitter. So these are some of the ways we believe we can use to project our players…and the more you do these things you also add value to the players,” he told Silver FM.

“Football is now showbiz…and in showbiz they do some of these thinsg to project themselves. And the more you go higher, your value also goes higher,” he added.

Asante Kotoko will next play WAFA and the Fabio Gama hype is expected to travel through until the game. Should he replicate his output against Liberty in the WAFA clash, expect the buzz around the name to increase.
