Ex-Ghanaian footballer now turned coach, Frimpong Manso has offered support to under-fire Black Stars coach Charles Akonnor following his side’s humiliating defeat to Mali in his first game.
According to Frimpong Manso, Akonnor who in the aftermath of the game has been heavily criticized will require much time and patience to put together an all-conquering side.
The Eagles of Mali defeated Ghana’s Black Stars by 3-0 in a friendly encounter on Friday much to the dismay of Ghanaian football fans who were highly expectant of a positive result prior to kick-off.
The match was Akonnor’s first since he was handed the reins earlier this year.
After a listless performance and a confidence-crushing result, Ghanaians have been emboldened in belief that former National captain Akonnor is not cut for the role as head coach of the Senior National team.
Speaking to Space FM in Sunyani, Frimpong Manso provided a fair assessment of C.K. Akonnor insisting its quite hurried to judge his capabilities.
“Its too early to say that coach CK Akonnor is not capable of handling the national team, its just one match he has played. Let have the patience for him and support him”, Manso told Space FM.
“The formation deployed doesn’t account to the loss, but the players didn’t perform well.”
Coach C.K Akonnor has a point to prove and a chance to win over some skeptics on Monday when Ghana takes on Qatar.
