Ghana skipper Andre Ayew is set to lead the Black Stars on the field as they take on Mali tonight.
The game which takes place at the Emir Sports complex in Antalya, Turkey will be Head Coach Charles Akonnor’s first game in charge since his appointment earlier this year.
The Coronavirus delayed his tenure as the head Coach of the senior national football team and definitely will be keen to get a great start to his tenure.
Swansea City forward, Andre Ayew has been in fine form and after been maintained by the new Coach as captain of the side, he is expected to lead on the pitch by displaying his usual leadership qualities and fine football talent.
Ayew’s presence is key in a game of this nature based on his experience and ability to play the perfect link between the players and coach on the pitch.
With over 85 caps and 15 goals for the national team, he is expected to bring his experience and tenacity on this young crop of players.
His brother Jordan Ayew and new Arsenal recruit, Thomas Partey (who is a deputy skipper) are all expected to support Andre on the pitch today.
Mali have always proved a difficult customer for Ghana in all competitions at different levels of football. On two occasions, they beat the Black Stars to clinch Bronze at the Africa Cup of Nations in 2012 and 2013 in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea and South Africa respectively.
