Andre Ayew’s hopes of securing Premier League promotion with Swansea were dashed following 3-1 defeat to Brentford in the Championship play-off semi-final at Griffin Park yesterday.

The Welsh club went into the second leg with a narrow 1-0 advantage after Ayew’s late goal at the Liberty Stadium on Sunday.

However Brentford overturned the first-leg deficit to beat Swansea City 3-2 on aggregate and book their spot in final at Wembley.

The west Londoners, who are looking to end their 73-year exile from the top flight, will face either Cardiff City or neighbours Fulham at Wembley on Tuesday, 4 August.
