France Legend Marcel Desailly has shared his thoughts on the misfortune that has befallen former Ghana Football Association President, Kwesi Nyantakyi.

The Former FIFA Council member and CAF 1st Vice President was banned for life by the FIFA Independent Ethics Committee which found him guilty of breaching “art. 19 (Conflicts of interest), art. 21 (Bribery and corruption) and art. 22 (Commission) of the FIFA Code of Ethics, 2012 edition” following the premiere of an exposé into bribery and corruption by Anas Aremeyaw Anas and his Tiger Eye PI team.

Nyantakyi was seen in the video allegedly accepting $65,000 cash, a figure he disputes, preaching to the supposed potential investors how they could secure business deals in Ghana and ‘take over the whole country.’

Kurt E.S Okraku was elected on October 5, 2019 to replace the embattled Kwesi Nyantakyi who was President for 13 years.

He will serve an initial four-year term with an additional four-year term if re-elected into office.

Speaking in an interview with FootballMadeInGhana, Desailly opined that Nyantakyi overstayed in office and cautioned all stakeholders to ensure that mistake is not repeated again.

“No one should be allowed to take Ghana Football and the FA hostage. Kwesi Nyantakyi was in the system for far too long since 2006 I think until the recent move. Now we have someone new who should have two or exceptionally three mandates to finish his job so we can have somebody else to also bring a different point of view and expertise”

Desailly ended by lauding the new President of the GFA Kurt but reckons the experienced football administrator will need time to transform Ghana Football.

“I’m very happy about Kurt Okraku’s election as the new President of the Ghana Football Association. He needs time to push away the bad habits of the past and try to shine and bring his expertise to transform Ghana football from the grassroots to the top”
