The Confederation of African Football, CAF has announced the cancellation of the 2020 CAF Awards, President Ahmad Ahmad has confirmed.

The continent’s World Football governing body arrived at the decision during its Executive Committee meeting on Tuesday, June 30, 2020.

“Good afternoon to everyone and welcome to this press conference. I am particularly thinking about those whose families have been affected by the Corona Virus pandemic. We meet today from a distance. The last time we met was to celebrate the prestigious CAF Awards. Unfortunately the next edition has been canceled,” CAF President Ahmad told a virtual Press conference with top African Journalists.

The cancellation means Sadio Mane remains as the reigning Men’s Player of Year while Nigeria’s Asisat Oshoala remains the reigning Women’s Awards with the duo winning the ultimate individual prizes at the last awards event.

Various Football competitions have affected since the outbreak of the Corona Virus pandemic on the African continent in March this year.
