Head Coach of Ghana Premier League side WAFA Prosper Narteh-Ogum has offered an intellectual ad exciting perspective as to why Asamoah Gyan missed the crucial penalty against Uruguay at the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
The episode often reminds Ghanaians of the heartache suffered as the Black Stars were just a step away from making history.
With the scores even, Ghana were rightly awarded a last minute penalty in extra-time after Luis Suarez handled the ball on the goal line.
An opportunity availed itself for Gyan to become the man to send Ghana to the semi finals which would have been Africa’s first.
Unfortunately the striker’s shot cannoned off the bar and went out of play and Africa’s hopes dashed.
Almost 10 years after the incident, Prosper Narteh Ogum who also doubles as a senior lecturer at the University of Cape Coast’s Department Of Health, Physical Education & Recreation (HPER) has offered a more intellectual explanation to why Gyan missed.
He was speaking to Takoradi based Skyy Power FM.
