Gyan, Kwadwo Asamoah, Salisu and other notable absentees in Ghana squad for Sudan clash

Ghana coach C.K Akonnor has named his squad for the upcoming 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier double-header against Sudan.

The new Black Stars gaffer announced his 23-man squad at a press conference in Accra on Tuesday and has left out some big names including Ghana’s all-time scorer Asamoah Gyan and Inter Milan ace Kwadwo Asamoah.

But perhaps the most surprising snub is Real Valladolid stalwart Mohammed Salisu who has been in impeccable form in Spain. His performances in the ongoing campaign has seen develop into one of the most reliable centre-backs in La Liga and is attracting serious interest from clubs in Europe.

There was also no room for rejuvenated striker Majid Waris who seems to have discovered his old form at Strasbourg.

Egypt-based striker John Antwi has been overlooked despite his stunning performances for Pyramids FC this season.

Other notable absentees also includes John Boye, Majeed Ashmeru, Patrick Twumasi, Kevin Prince Boateng, Samuel Tetteh, and Afriyie Acquah.

Below is Ghana’s 23-man squad for the AFCON Qualifier doubleheader;

Goalkeepers: Richard Ofori, Richard Attah and Razak Abalora

Defenders: Kwadwo Amoako, Andy Yiadom, Gideon Mensah, Nicholas Opoku, Kasim Adams, Joseph Aidoo, Habib Mohammed

Midfielders: Mubarak Wakaso, Alfred Duncan, Baba Iddrssu, Thomas Partey, Kudus Mohammed, Christopher Antwi-Adjei, Tarique Fosu, Samuel Owusu, Andre Ayew

Forwards: Jordan Ayew, Richmond Boakye Yiadom, Eugene Ansah, Yahaya Mohammed
