Week 10 of the Ghana Premier League brought with it many surprising results and as expected movement on the league log. The biggest winner was undoubtedly Liberty Professionals as the Scientific Soccer Lads tore into shreds defending champions Aduana Stars.
Inter Allies; inspired by their talisman Victorien Adebayor also inflicted damage on Berekum Chelsea. The Nigerien football wizard cast a spell on the Bibires as the ‘Eleven is To One’ secured their first ever win at Berekum, alternatively Chelsea’s first home defeat.
Benjamin Bernard Boateng is a player on form. The Elmina Sharks attacker netted a hat trick to down Chelsea during Match Week 9 and he followed it up with a crucial winner at Tarkwa against Medeama.
The team at FMIG has put together a team of best performers in the Ghana Premier League during Match Week 10. Victorien Adebayor (Inter Allies) and Samuel Kusi (King Faisal) retain their places while Hearts of Oak and Liberty Professionals contribute 2 players each. From the goalkeeper to the last outfield player, we have taken time to give the various reasons that qualifies the players to make our Team of the Week.
- Godfred Amoh (Dreams FC):
Godfred Amoh deserves the sole slot for goalkeeper in this team as his performance helped keep WAFA at bay and prolong the winless run of the Academy Boys at Sogakope. Amoh; making an appearance in post for the third time this season, pulled off some decent saves to deny WAFA a goal at the Red Bull Arena. His exploits saw him record his first clean sheet of the campaign as Dreams FC held on for a point. It was Dreams’ first ever clean sheet at Sogakope against WAFA.
- Fatawu Mohammed (Hearts of Oak):
Hearts of Oak skipper Fatawu Mohammed was in inspired form on Sunday as the Phobians overcame Bechem United at the Accra Sports Stadium. Fatawu scored the second of his side’s three goals to give them the lead in the 64th minute. His overall performance in combining defensive duties with attack sees him occupy the right back spot with very few objections.
- Samue Kusi (King Faisal):
Enterprising King Faisal full back Samuel Kusi is one of few players to keep their place in the team. He’s been one of his side’s few bright spots in what has been a dismal season so far. Kusi’s energetic runs and hard work on the pitch sees him rewarded with a place in the team of the week.
- Ibrahim Abdulai (Dreams FC):
The Dreams FC center back proved a towering presence at the back as he helped frustrate an exciting crop of WAFA talent in a difficult away game. Abdulai Ibrahim helped shore the back as Dreams held on to snatch a point from Sogakope while keeping a clean sheet in the process.
- Habib Mohammed (Asante Kotoko):
In a very difficult game against regional rivals AshantiGold, Habib was immense at the back as Kotoko warded off most of the attacking threat their opponents posed. The center back’s exploits helped his side to not concede while also earning a point in the game.
- James Akaminko (AshGold):
Without doubt, James Akamino is one of the league’s best defensive midfielders and he demonstrated this in the 0-0 stalemate with Asante Kotoko. Akaminko’s ball winning skills, enviable ball distribution and energy can only be matched by few in Ghana’s top flight and the anchorman was at his best as he efficiently displayed his qualities which freed his colleagues to enjoy what was a tight game for both sides.
- Victorien Adebayor (Inter Allies):
Adebayor is currently the league’s most sought after player and his performance for Inter Allies this weekend tells exactly why. The Nigerien wowed fans from near and far with his intelligent play and movements.
He definitely proved unstoppable as he played the chief role in sending Berekum Chelsea to the guillotine. Adebayor bagged a brace as Inter Allies recorded their first away in against Chelsea. He now has 10 goals, 4 assists and at this rate, it will be absolutely ridiculous to leave him out of this squad.
- Mubarak Alhassan (Liberty Professionals):
Liberty’s offensive midfielder Alhassan Mubarak gets in here as FMIG’s player of the Week. Mubarak was splendid as Liberty massacred defending league champions Aduana Stars. He scored twice, provided an assist as the Scientific Soccer Lads tore apart their guests at Dansoman. His overall performance makes it impossible to overlook him.
- Yahaya Mohammed (Aduana Stars):
Yahaya Mohammed loves challenges; he thrives in the midst of competition. Playing a day after Victorien Adebayor had taken a 2 goal lead in the race for the goal king, the Aduana Stars captain twice netted to give his side the lead at Dansoman. However Aduana Stars will subsequently succumb to a Liberty onslaught. However, Yahaya Mohammed’s shine cannot be dimmed by the result and deserves to lead the attack in our Team of the Week.
- Elvis Kyei Baffour (Liberty Professionals):
One of Aduana Stars’ tormentors on Sunday at Dansoman; Elvis Kyei Baffour has been immense for Liberty this season and came to the party again as the Scientific Soccer Lads came from behind to win an exciting encounter 5-2.
Kyei Baffour scored two goals; his side’s first to equalize and their last goal to put the final nail in the coffin to bury Aduana Stars. No qualms about his selection here.
- Kofi Kordzi (Hearts Of Oak):
Phobian hearts were nearly shattered until Kofi Kordzi happened. Hearts’ ‘Aveyime Drogba’ was in no mood to let Bechem leave Accra with a point and he decided the encounter in the last minute. Kordzi had already netted from the spot to draw his side level in the game when he showed up in the last minute to notch the winner.
