Hearts of Oak recorded their first win of this season’s Premier League campaign after edging Ebusua Dwarfs 2-1 at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.

The hosts made three changes from the team that lost to Medeama SC with Coach Odoom handing debuts to Goalkeeper Richard Atta and midfielder Frederick Ansah Botchway.

Meanwhile Coach Robert Asibu returned to the Dwarfs bench for the first time this season after missing their opening two games due to illness.

But it was the Phobians who started the match on the front foot with Benjamin Afutu nearly opening the scoring in the 3rd minute after connecting to a delightful cross by Joseph Esso, only for his header to hit the cross bar.

Esso missed a glorious opportunity from point blank range few minutes later as Hearts of Oak kept asserting their dominance over the visitors.

Joseph Esso atoned for his miss in the 28th minute with a brilliant free kick just outside the box to put his side in front.

Hearts of Oak came close to doubling their lead on the stroke of halftime through Obeng Jr who produced a wonderful piece of skill to lose his marker on the left wing before smashing his shot on the woodwork.

Dwarfs started the second half brightly but their early promise was quenched by Kofi Kordzi who scored a sensational free kick from 25 yards to give Hearts of Oak a two goal cushion.

The Abontoa Bontoa boys pulled one back in the 70th minute through substitute Ato Hammond who latched unto a defense splitting pass to beat Richard Atta.

The visitors got their tales up from then on but Hearts of Oak held on to snatch all three points.

Hearts will next travel to Sogakope for a tricky test against WAFA while Dwarfs host Liberty Professionals at the Cape Coast Stadium.
