Black Meteors have been knocked out of the U23 African Cup of Nations after losing to Ivory Coast 3-2 on penalties.
Goals from Yaw Yeboah and Evans Mensah cancelled out Youssef Dao brace forcing the game to by decided penalties.
Ibrahim Tanko maintained the same team that started mali in the semi finals.
The Ivorians started the game very well and look to take the ball Ghana.
It didn’t take long before Dao gave them the lead, the Ivorian striker capitalized from defensive howler at the back to put the ball at the back of the net.
The Ivorians kept on dominating the game and could have had the second but Kwame Baah did well to denied Dio.
Ghana made their first substitution in the game by bringing on Kwabena Owusu for Prince Polley.
Despite dominating the game Ivory Coast couldn’t add to their lead till the end of the first half.
Yaw Yeboah levelled matters for Ghana five minute into the break, the Celta Vigo midfielder tapped home a cross from Obeng Gyaba to make it 1-1.
Ivory Coast nearly made 2-1 but Aymen Timite missed the post by inch.
Youssef Dao restored Ivory Coast lead with five minute to go heading home a beautiful cross from the left side to make 2-1.
Ghana huffed and puffed but couldn’t break the Ivorian defense.
Evans Mensah finally grabbed the equalizer for Ghana two minute into injury time slotting home a low shot from Owusu’s pass to forced the game to go to extra time.
The first half of the extra time ended 0-0.
Evans Mensah had a golden opportunity to get the winner for Ghana but his shot went wide.
Both sides defended very well till the blast off the extra time whistle.
Ivory Coast won the penalty shoot out 3-2 to book their ticket to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic.
All hope is not lost for the Meteors who can still pick one of the three slots to the global sporting event if they win their third place match.
