Ghana midfielder Kingley Sarfo is set to be released from prison in Sweden today, according to local media reports.
It can be recalled that the Malmo FF star was sentenced to 32 months in June 2018 after he was found guilty of rape and having sex with an underage Ghanaian girl in the European country.
However, after serving more than a year in jail, fresh evidence his lawyers picked from Ghana suggests the lady is way above her earlier reported age.
The case is therefore being re-examined with his conviction expected to be overturned by the court.
He will not be deported to the West Africa country and will continue his career at Malmo where he is still under contract.
The 24 year old was one of Ghana’s fastest rising stars before the sentence halted his burgeoning playing career.
Sarfo was handed a debut call-up to feature for the Black Stars in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Uganda after opting to play for Ghana instead of Sweden.
