Ashantigold SC striker Shafiu Mumuni has expressed shock over his Black Stars call up after becoming the only outfield local player to make coach Kwasi Appian’s 23-man squad for the AFCON 2021 qualifier against South Africa and Sao Tome and Principe.
The striker who won the top scorer award at the just ended WAFU tournament in Senegal alluded his call up to hard work and determination.
“This morning I saw my name in the squad and I was shocked. It is down to hard work and determination,” he told Fox FM Sports
“The Shafiwu you see in Ashantigold and the WAFU, you will see the same Shafiwu in the senior national team camp,” he added.
Shafiwu Mumuni enjoyed a brilliant campaign in the CAF Confederations Cup, Normalisation Committee Special Competition and the WAFU Cup this year.
The Black Stars B skipper is expected to play a significant role, as Ghana seeks to secure qualification to Cameroon in 2021.
