If being endorsed by clubs to make an aspirant eligible to contest for the GFA Presidency is synonymous to winning the elections, George Afriyie could have been declared the successor of Kwesi Nyantakyi following his massive endorsement by a number of clubs.
Following the regulations of the Elections Committee, each candidate is entitled to at least 5 endorsements from delegates to pass the hurdle of contesting.
But the Okyeman Planners owner amassed over thirty endorsements from both Premier and Division One League clubs which showed massive confidence the clubs had in him.
Addressing the media after filing his nomination, George Afriyie revealed that twelve (12) Premier League clubs and twenty Division One League clubs endorsed him to contest for the GFA Presidency.
“Let me say clearly that as I stand here, officially ten of the 16 Premier League clubs have endorsed my forms. Two undisclosed, but assured that yes we’ll endorse but we don’t want our name to be public. So if the two is added to the ten, 12 out of the 16 Premier League clubs have assured me that George go for it and we’ll back you,” he said.
“Apart from that, twenty out of the 48 Division One clubs have endorsed my forms. Five of which we can’t disclose but the fifteen, we can disclose,” he added.
George who was evaporating with confidence sounded like delivering his thanksgiving speech to the clubs that endorsed him as he spoke with overwhelming confidence.
The Liberty Professionals Director will however fight opposition from Kurt Okraku, Wilfred Osei Kwaku, Nana Yaw Amponsah, Kojo Yankah, Amanda Clinton, Lawyer Ankamah Mensah and Fred Pappoe.
The elections of the Ghana FA are scheduled to take place in October 25, 2019.
