MATCH REPORT: Ghana 1-1 Algeria – Black Meteors held at home by Algeria

The Black Meteors of Ghana were held to a pulsating 1-1 stalemate by their Algeria counterparts in the U23 AFCON Qualifier at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday.

A first half strike by Zorgane Adem was cancelled in the second half by Dauda Mohammed to make the second leg much more difficult for the Black Meteors considering their chances of qualifying.

A well worked out attack by the Algerians saw Mouli Farid connecting excellently with Zorgane Adem who beautifully curled home a brilliant finish to break the virginity of the game.

The energy-laden Algerian side had the Black Meteors chasing their shadows in the first half in what appeared a hard day for the Ghanaians.

Five minutes after the opener from Zorgane, Yaw Yeboah shot wide from the spot after Dauda Mohammed was brought down in the Algeria penalty box.

Tanko’s side was forced to make two quick changes at the start of the second half with Isaac Twum and Joel Fameyeh coming in for Joseph Paintsil and Bernard Terkpetey.

Yaw Yeboah forced a penalty for the Meteors in what looked a rejuvenated side and this time Dauda Mohammed converted expertly to give Ghana the equalizer.

The result has made the second leg much more difficult for the Meteors as they fly to Algeria.

The Black Meteors will depart Ghana on Sunday for the second leg in Algiers to determine who qualifies for the the U23 AFCON tournament.
