Assistant coach of Ashantigold Yakubu Sharif Mambo has heaped praise on striker Shafiu Mumuni after he bagged a hat-trick to send the Miners through to the next round of the CAF Confederation Cup.
The 24 year old was in superb form against Akonangui FC of Equatorial Guinea on Saturday, scoring a treble in their 3-0 victory at the Len Clay Stadium.
Mumuni opened the scoring from the penalty spot just a minute into the game.
He made it 2-0 five minutes later after capitalizing on a defensive mishap.
The prolific goalpoacher completed his hat-trick in the 9th minute as the miners wrapped up the victory in the first half.
“Shafiu is very important to the team, his presence alone makes his teammates play better. Without him, we find goals very hard to come by. He is one of the best striker’s we’ve ever had Ashgold and even in Ghana” Mambo told reporters after the match.
The win has now set them up with a meeting with Moroccan side RS Berkane in the next stage of the competition.
