‘Showing up in the Premier League early make people assume I’m aged’ – Christopher Bonney

Hearts of Oak defender Christopher has finally opened up on his age controversy that popped up following his call up into the Ghana U23 side.

The former Asante Kotoko right back was kicked out of Ibrahim Tanko’s side following his age controversy.

Bonney claims Ghanaians classify players who pop up on the football seen early as aged and that is the challenge he has been confronted with.

“It seems when you get the opportunity to feature for a Premier League club early enough, Ghanaians assume you are aged,” Bonney told the media after Hearts’ friendly with the Ghana U23 side.

“I played in the Premier League at a very young age and people assume I’m old because my name has been on their lips for long.

“I was very young when I joined Dwarfs from Unistar Acadamy at the age of 15. My team mates are those playing in the U23 now.

“I was a member of the Ghana U17 side that suffered the MRI test. I was with Moses Odjer and the rest.

“I was young when I joined Dwarfs and didn’t take much time to join Kotoko. That what makes people think I am aged. I just had an early opportunity to play,” he reiterated.

Bonney also revealed that Hearts of Oak are dealing with web portal TransferMarkt to rectify the age they have on their system since it’s wrong.

“There was a mistake with TransferMarkt and Hearts of Oak are dealing with them to rectify it,” he disclosed.
