NC Special Competition: CK Akonnor is FMIG Coach of the 1st round

Asante Kotoko has been undoubtedly the most eye-catching team of the NC Special Competition so far, largely due to the influence of one man, coach C.K Akonnor.

Despite missing star man Songne Yacouba who has not featured in the competition due to a knee injury, the former Black Stars captain has guided the Porcupine Warriors to a stellar first round.

The defeat to Medeama SC and draw against Bechem United remains the only blip in what has otherwise been a successful campaign so far.

Key wins over reigning Premier League champions Aduana and regional rivals AshantiGold has seen them lay the marker as serious title contenders.

Akonnor’s team have been brilliant, imposing their possession based philosophy with a ruthless efficiency in front of goal.

Fatawu Safiu’s conversion into a quasi-centre-forward has proven to be a tactical master stroke.

The Former Inter Allies playmaker has blossomed in his new role scoring six goals in six games.

Kotoko have picked up 13 points in six games and are sitting comfortably on top of the table in the Northern Zone, making Akonnor our obvious choice for Coach of the first round.

The Kumasi-based giants are aiming to win the novelty league which means they represent Ghana at the CAF Champions League next season and with coach C.K Akonnor steering affairs, you wouldn’t bet against his team.
