U17 AFCON 2019: Fabin’s Uganda fail to pick World Cup ticket despite 1-1 stalemate with Nigeria

Ghanaian gaffer Paa Kwesi Fabin failed to grab a World Cup ticket with his Uganda U17 side after their 1-1 stalemate with Nigeria in the ongoing U17 AFCON in Tanzania.

A 74th minutes strike by Ibraheem Olalekan Jabaar canceled Uganda’s lesd through John Kokas Alou in the 67th minute to deny the East Africans a place in the semifinals.

Uganda’s hopes were dashed despite picking a point in the game after Angola recorded a 4-2 win over hosts Tanzania in the other group encounter.

Uganda bounced back from an opening day 1-0 defeat to Angola with a wonderful 3-0 win over Tanzania before drawing with tournament favorites Nigeria.

Uganda’s failure to pick a ticket for the semifinals means they have automatically not qualified for the World Cup.

The performance of the East Africans wasn’t poor for a side that is participating in the competition for the first time but would have been spectacular and historic if the Ghanaian trainer had secured qualification with them.

Fabin was appointed early last month to prepare the side for the competition.
