Asante Kotoko trainer Charles Kwablan Akonnor has responded to claims by his Zesco United counterpart, George Lwandamina, that Asante Kotoko have outlived their glory days.
The former AshantiGold coach refused to engage in a media war with his counterpart but told the media he will leave it for the pitch to decide.
“I don’t mind”, says Akonnor in his response to Lwandamina’s claims.
“He knows his team, he’s done well, he went to South Africa and won so that probably has given him the necessary confidence to be talking like that.”
“But, he would know whether we are not as strong as we used to be when we meet and play.”
“Asante Kotoko were very strong years back, but we have not played at this level in Africa for 11 years.”
“That could also be the reason he said that, but every good thing has a beginning. We began well and I believe it will continue,” says Akonnor.
Asante Kotoko will take on the Zambian giants at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Wednesday in the second Group C game of the CAF Confederation Cup.
