PSV Einhoven boss Phillip Cocu has come to the rescue of Ghana defender Derrick Luckassen following their 5-0 humiliation by Willem II at the Koning Willem II Stadion over the weekend.
Luckassen had a day to forget as he was very porous at the back which led to some of the goals and also capped it with a 90th minute red card for a second bookable offence.
Cocu has however defended the Dutch-born Ghanaian as he insists he is glad with his output in training and it was not only him who did not have his day against the minnows as the whole team were awful.
“I am satisfied with him (Derrick) at the training sessions. He played little and ended up in a badly running team on Saturday.” Cocu told ed.nl
“To be honest, I did not see any of my players who played well against Willem II. Everyone was bad not him alone.”
The 22 year-old joined PSV last July from AZ Alkmaar where he was the star in the team having made 96 appearances and scoring eight goals since his promotion to the senior team in 2014.
He can play anywhere across the back four and also as a holding midfielder
