Aduana Stars on Wednesday secured a 1-0 victory against Algerian side, Entente Setif in the first leg of the second preliminary round CAF Champions League match at the Nana Agyeman Badu II Park.
Zakaria Mumuni won a deserved penalty kick for Aduana Stars after 70th minutes and that was neatly converted by substitute, Sam Adams, eventually setting the stage for a potentially fierce second leg clash in Algeria ten days’ time.
Aduana Stars started the game with their guns blazing hoping for an opener to unsettle the Algerians. The visitors however defended well sometimes with seven to eight defenders at the back. That made it difficult for Aduana Stars to penetrate what was a watertight defence.
There were moments of brilliance by Zakaria Mumuni to get Aduana Stars on the score sheet but his dazzling run on the left flank in the 25th minute was unproductive as Bright Agyei finished off poorly.
In the 40th minute, Zakaria Mumuni’s breathtaking free kick painfully hit the crossbar to the anguish of the passionate Aduana fans. Setif finished the first 45 minutes with three yellow cards as their clear, time-wasting strategy right from the blast of the whistle was punished by Referee Denis Dembele.
Thus, goalkeeper, Moustafa Zeghba; Chemseddin Nessakh and Hamza Ait Oumar were all booked.
Aduana Stars came from the recess with stronger intensity in search for the opener. However, two brilliant strikes from Bright Agyei and Derrick Sasraku went off target.
Another stunning from Zakaria Mumuni in the 51st minute, beating three markers to set up Derrick Sasrako, also went over the bar. All efforts by Aduana Stars to double their lead proved difficult.
