Aduana Stars send Eleven Wonders out

Aduana Stars continued their impressive form the G-8 competition on Thursday afternoon when they beat Eleven Wonders by 3-1 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

Goals from Bright Adjei, Noah Martey and Oba Ikama were enough to send Aduana Stars straight to the semifinals of the tournament. The defeat means Eleven Wonders are out of the competition.

Coach Yussif Abubakar made nine changes to the team that face Dreams FC in their first game. Only Noah Martey and Derrick Sasraku kept their place. Caleb Amankwah, Samuel Bioh and Paul Aidoo had their debut game for Aduana Stars.

Coach Mumuni Gamel of Eleven Wonders maintained the core of his team that lost 0-1 to Kotoko. Larbi Koomson and Abdul Wahab led their attack.

In the 8th minute, Gockel Ahortor came close to scoring with a wonderful free kick. Aduana Stars gradually settled and dominated but they couldn’t find the back of the net.

Caleb Amankwa forced a good save from goalkeeper, George Ameyaw in the 23rd minute with his 25-yard shot. Aduana Stars kept creating chances yet couldn’t score.

Eleven Wonders’ defence stayed resolute. Another wonderful save from goalkeeper, George Ameyaw denying Derrick Sasraku a goal in the 33rd minute, drew more applause for the goalie but not in the 42nd minute when he was beaten.

After long throw-in by Caleb Amankwah, Derrick Sasraku flicked the ball for unmarked Bright Adjei to head home. The second goal came in the 44th minute with Noah Martey scoring from a tight angle.

Eleven wonders started the second half with a lot of zeal. They put pressure on Aduana Stars but Abdul Wahab was denied by goalkeeper, Godorn Yaboah. The much improved Eleven Wonders strung good passes and created fine chances yet Aduana Stars remained strong.

Despite their good play, Elevens Wonders conceded the third goal in the 66th minute. After a sweet one-to-one pass between Sasraku and Oba Ikama; Ikama went around the defence to fire a powerful shot that beat hapless goalie, George Ameyaw.

Eleven Wonders had a consolation goals in 85th minute through Larbi Koomson’s well-converted penalty kick. Koomson was put through by the fantastic Bamjamin Owusu but the goalie fouled him resulting in the penalty.
