The construction of ten pitches across the country by television rights holders of the Ghana Premier League, StarTimes will start in the coming weeks according to a release by the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
StarTimes as part of its ten-year contract with the football controlling body in Ghana are to construct pitches in every region of the country. A season has passed since that controversial contract was signed but not a single has been seen.
However, a release on the FA’s website on Friday said “The Executive Committee [of the GFA has] approved the proposal for the sod-cutting ceremonies for the construction of the ten StarTimes pitches to begin over the next few weeks.
“StarTimes’ leadership in Ghana were invited to the [Executive Committee] meeting and also agreed with the Executive Committee to get the project underway as soon as possible” the statement added.
“The first three regions targeted are Upper West, Upper East and Brong Ahafo regions as they are in dire need of these pitches to foster the development of the game. Some Regional FAs have already secured the lands for pitches while some are still in talks with landowners” it ended.
