“When you fall into trouble or get sick from an ailment that is life-threatening, it’s then that you will see who your real friends are”. These were the words of former Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak defender, Agyemang Duah when he spoke to FootballMadeInGhana.com exclusively over the weekend.
Agyemang Duah is the only player to have played in three CAF Champions League finals with three different clubs – Asante Kotoko, Ashantigold and Hearts of Oak. He won the title with only Hearts of Oak.
Years later, ‘Rambo’ suffered a stroke – a cardiovascular condition which has left him paralyzed and this development has shown him who his real friends are since most of them have abandoned him.
“When you go through some tough situations in your life that’s when those who are your real friends reveal themselves. It’s unfortunate but some people I called friends who were with me all the time, now don’t even pick my calls” said the former player.
“Some have even gone to the extreme, [to the extent the] of blocking my number for both calls and WhatsApp” he said with his eyes soaked in tears.
“Sometimes I call them just to have a chat or ask how they are doing, but they saw me to be a problem, thinking I will be asking for money. But it’s all good. I now know that, everything that happens does [happen] for a reason. I have few friends now and I am happy that way” he concluded.
