President Akufo-Addo to name Tamale Stadium after Aliu Mahama

The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has hinted that the Tamale Sports Stadium will be renamed the “Alhaji Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium”, in honour of the late Vice President of the Republic, Alhaji Aliu Mahama.

President Akufo-Addo,indicated that the late Alhaji Aliu Mahama did enough in the Ghanaian sporting arena and it is prudent to name the stadium in the Northern Region after him as he pledged prior to last year’s election.

In a courtesy call on the first gentleman of Ghana by members of the Aliu Mahama Foundation on Tuesday October 31, 2017, President Akufo-Addo emphasized that the sports edifice in Tamale is going to be named after the late Vice President as one of the activities to commemorate the 5th anniversary of his demise.

President Akufo-Addo described Aliu Mahama as a colleague and a very valuable member of the team that worked with former President J.A. Kufuor and his premature departure continues always to be a very emotional matter for them.

Aliu Mahama was one of the founding father’s of Real Tamale United and also the godfather of Ghana legend Abedi Pele.
